The owners of this 1970’s ranch home love to cook. However they had a tightly enclosed, dimly lit kitchen located in the center of the house. It was cramped and not at all conducive to their culinary skill. The owners asked for more workspace and counter space, more light, upgraded electrical and new appliances of suitable size and quality to convert the kitchen into a true “chef’s kitchen”. They wanted the kitchen to have a cheerful, welcoming atmosphere to accommodate their many family gatherings and they wanted the convenience of their washer, dryer and computer desk incorporated into the kitchen area. To meet the challenges of this wish list, the kitchen space was totally gutted out. A half wall between the kitchen and dining area was removed. Another half wall, soffits and hanging cabinets were removed to open up the area to the family room providing the desired spacious, airy feeling. The attractive yet practical design created significantly more cabinet and counter space allowing the chef to “visit” while preparing food. Custom cabinetry surrounding the laundry appliances gave them a “built-in” look. With the addition of the “chef’s grade” appliances, this formerly ‘one-chef’ kitchen was transformed to combine functionality and beauty that not only met but exceeded expectations!
