Although well cared for, the screened- in porch of this charming, suburban home was in disrepair. The owner wanted to remove the porch and replace it with a suite for her aging mother. The new addition would offer comfort, privacy and the added benefit of overlooking the home’s lovely backyard.

A new entrance off the kitchen was constructed and an additional door was added allowing for “private entry” directly into the suite. The hallway connecting the addition to the original home included a convenient laundry closet with bi-fold panel doors. Maple cabinets above the washer and dryer provide ample storage to limited space. An octagon window with mullions and track lighting illuminates the hall. The large garden room features a walk-in bay with windows – perfect for reading, reminiscing or enjoying the beauty outside.

A large, double pocket door allows the adjacent bedroom to be closed off when privacy is desired. Brushed nickel light fixtures add charm and ambiance. The final touch, a country style bath, makes this addition a true garden repose. Set off from the hustle and bustle of household activities, it is a perfect place for any family member in need of a moment of quiet relaxation.
