COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:

Carmel Builders and its dedicated team of employees recently participated in the Metropolitan Builders Association’s (MBA) Remodeling Homes/Reshaping Lives project. This project embodies the spirit of giving back to the community and making a difference in people’s lives, the very same values embraced by Carmel Builders.

Background

MBA found out about Phil Palasz, a former electronic technician stricken with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) since 1991. Phil’s health deteriorated to a point where he was unable to keep his job and now requires a wheelchair to get around. If things weren’t tough enough for Phil, his wife Denise and their children their home had some out-dated features and was in need of structural improvements.

The solution

MBA’s Remodeling Homes/Reshaping Lives program assembled a team of more than 150 association members and their affiliates to give the Palasz family home a Milwaukee version of an “Extreme Makeover”. After three weeks, the home was almost completely transformed. Some of the changes included updated designs throughout, new furnishings, wood flooring, new appliances, new cabinetry, skylighting, new bathroom, a teen room, and some exciting built-ins.

Carmel Builders designed and remodeled the entry way to include an attractive front porch with a gabled roof. “Our portion of the project took our carpentry crew three days to complete”, said Tom Weiher, president of Carmel Builders. “It was terrific to rally our team for such a wonderful cause. We share a tremendous sense of pride and satisfaction in all the work we do, but the joy and happiness we helped bring to the Palasz family was particularly.”
